What can I say about this wonderful man that hasn't already been said? I don't think there was any period of my life that I could'nt associate with one of his songs, films or an image of him.
A true artist in every sense of the word, an incredibly talented and versatile performer, David Bowie changed with the times and re-invented/transformed himself often, he didn't just write and sing amazing songs, he really brought them to life visually.

I felt someone so influential and inspirational was the perfect choice for my first large scale portrait. I normally work on A4 or A3.....this is A2.  I painted the first layer in acrylic paint before adding details in my usual scribble style with acrylic pens. I created a more traditional style background to add power and impact, in contrast to the fresh and contemporary style in which I drew David himself. I think the difference between the two styles works really well and is fitting for a man of such wide-ranging interests, talents and skills.

My portrait was created using an original Greg Gorman photo as reference. I'd like to thank Greg for his generosity in allowing me to use his wonderful photo...the way he captured such an intense yet sensitive gaze is truly mesmerising.

  • Upon receipt please handle your portrait with care by the very edges, and do not touch or brush anything against the surface of the paper. It should be kept in a cool, dry environment, out of direct sunlight. I would recommend framing at the earliest opportunity, leaving it in the sleeve until then.

Where work is on standard sized paper (A4/A3), it should be easy to frame with an off-the-shelf frame, readily available from shops with/without pre-cut mount. However, for optimal results and longevity I would advise going to a professional framer.
